Fluoride Applications
At Little Family Dentistry, in Bayonne, NJ, our staff strongly believes that every person deserves to have a healthy and beautiful smile. Our staff is prepared to help you achieve the smile you deserve and want, by first preventing tooth decay through fluoride treatments.
Fluoride Applications
Fluoride is the most efficient method available in preventing tooth decay. If you consistently get cavities, a professional fluoride treatment can help. The fluoride used in our office, at Little Family Dentistry, is a stronger concentration than in most toothpaste or fluoride mouthwashes. Professional fluoride treatments are performed in just a few minutes. The gel or foam is applied with a cotton swab or brush or the fluoride can be placed in a tray and put in the mouth for several minutes, which will allow your teeth to soak in the fluoride. After the treatment is completed, it is recommended you not rinse, eat or drink for at least 30 minutes. At Little Family Dentistry, we recommend you have a fluoride treatment every three, six or 12 months.
What Are the Benefits of a Fluoride Application?
Fluoride treatments prevent tooth decay and maintain excellent dental health in both children and adults. They protect the enamel of the tooth and can reverse decay in the early stages. Most people are satisfied with getting their fluoride from their food and water, but sometimes it is not enough protection against cavities. At Little Family Dentistry, we recommend professional fluoride treatments for the following reasons:
- If you have deep pits on the chewing surfaces of teeth
- If there are exposed root surfaces
- If you exercise fair or poor oral hygiene habits
- Have a tendency to eat sugary foods
- Do not have enough intake of fluoride
- Suffer from inadequate saliva flow due to medical conditions
- Have a history of dental decay
It is important to remember that fluoride alone does not prevent tooth decay! Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day, eating a balanced diet, reducing your sugar intake and visiting our office on a regular basis helps.
